The first week of September

We’re kicking off my birth month and the end of summer with some drama in the Stover hale and across Hawai’i! I managed to get some photos to remember it all.

Nakoa tries to hide from us after getting in a fight with another cat in the neighborhood. He eventually has to come out from behind the pillows and face the music…

We take a little trip to West Hawai’i Animal Urgent Care, where Dr. Maria assures us that Nakoa will live after injecting him with antibiotics. He’ll probably have a scar on his nose and belly for the rest of his life. He plans to be Scar for Halloween this year.

After my appointment at Kacie Hawai’i Esthetics Studio, I get some writing done while sipping a latte on the lanai at Puna Chocolates Farm in Kealakekua. I contemplate moving in.

Mana has a lot to say! He’s our oldest and chattiest baby. Is chattiest a word?

I head to my favorite beach for a trail run and discover that the surge from Hurricane Lowell was not in fact a joke.

The trail is literally underwater!

I have a choice to make: Turn back so I can still get a decent run in on the road? Or accept that the ocean has other plans for me today?

I’ve been on a bit of a mindfulness journey lately. As such, being in sync with nature is a priority. For me, it’s the whole point of trail running. So I surrender to the ocean.

I remember that I’m a soul runner. I turn off my music and take off my socks and shoes. I walk barefoot in the sand and through the salt water.

I let the suds and bubbles mesmerize me. Two hours later, the county closes the beach (including the trail) due to dangerous conditions.

We get our yard work in on Sunday, before the rain from the hurricane drives us inside for the week (which is perfect writing weather, in my opinion). Here’s our dragonfruit showing off her first fruit!

I planted this lilikoi when we moved in one year ago and she finally has a blossom! It won’t be long before our first harvest!

Shh, Princess Kaia is getting her beauty sleep before the hurricane hits. We’ll see what the next week has in store for us. Stay tuned for more Stoventures!
